Residents in an Encino neighborhood say they’re taking action to protect their property after a house in the area was broken into twice.

On July 11 , police responded to a home in the 4900 block of Edgerton Ave. around  12:10 a.m. During the first break-in, a babysitter was inside the house with two kids when the burglars broke in, but Fox 11 reported she grabbed the kids and hid in a room.

The house was broken into again on Monday around 10:30 p.m., but no one was home.

Jodie Francisco, a resident of the neighborhood, told KNX News’ Karen Adams she spoke with the homeowner as the break-in was happening.

“[The homeowner] just said that they were breaking into her house again and she was watching it on her cameras, I guess,” she said. “She's out of town and some of the neighbors drove by but they had already fled. We had video of them. We think it's them fleeing but they were going too fast. I don't think anybody was able to catch the plate.”

Also on Monday night, a home belonging to a celebrity about a mile away was also broken into.

Francisco said residents formed a neighborhood watch and added more security to their homes.

“Some people are adding a film that goes on the glass [and] makes it harder to break through the glass,” she said. “They're adding spikes on their gates, installing more cameras.”

She added that the break-ins are happening more in the daytime rather than at night and that more police are needed.

Eric, another resident, said his house has plenty of security as well.

“We have two alarm systems,” he said. “A couple of patrol systems that are patrolling around the house. You pay monthly for [it]. It’s like a patrol service. They're constantly patrolling. [We also have] 24-hour camera surveillance with A.I. detection system.”

No arrests have been made in connection to the break-ins at the time of this publication.
