Dodgers Legend Manny Ramirez’s Son Selected in MLB Draft

Lucas Ramirez, the son of former Los Angeles Dodgers legend Manny Ramirez, was drafted in the 17th round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Angels.

The Angels drafted Ramirez out of American Heritage School in Florida. The outfielder is also committed to the University of Tennessee.

Manny Ramirez played for the Dodgers from 2008-10, acquired in a blockbuster trade with the Boston Red Sox on July 31, 2008. Manny helped the Dodgers reach the National League Championship Series in back-to-back seasons. Each time, they lost to the Philadelphia Phillies despite Manny hitting .520 with four home runs and 10 RBIs during that postseason run.

Manny’s next two seasons were marred by suspension and injury. He missed 50 games with the Dodgers in 2009 after testing positive for a substance banned by the league’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, then played just 66 games in 2010 as he dealt with injuries. He was also ejected twice over those two seasons.

The elder Ramirez began his career in Cleveland before joining the Boston Red Sox, helping the formerly cursed club to two World Series championships. A 12-time All-Star and nine-time Silver Slugger, Manny last played in 2011.

Now, his son has the opportunity to begin his career professionally if he doesn’t head to Tennessee to play college baseball instead.
