Shohei Ohtani opened the scoring Tuesday at the 2024 MLB All-Star Game with none other than a towering smash into the stands at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

His home run in the top of the third inning put the National League up by three before the American League came back in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.

The blast marked Ohtani's first in an All-Star Game and the first Dodgers homer in an All-Star Game since Mike Piazza in 1996. The 30-year-old two-way star also becomes one of seven National League All-Stars to drive in three or more runs with an All-Star Game home run, putting him on a list that features Barry Bonds.

In Ohtani's three previous All-Star appearances, he had recorded a total of one hit, which came in 2022. As of Tuesday, though, he is the only player in MLB history to earn a win on the mound and hit a home run at the plate in his All-Star Game career.

Here are some details about and reactions to Ohtani's three-run blast.

    Shohei Ohtani home run distance

Ohtani's All-Star Game home run made it 400 feet, though the blast seemed to fly even further, as reactions in the stands and on social media attested. From the moment the ball left the bat, onlookers knew it would be a home run.

    Shohei Ohtani home run reactions

The Globe Life Field crowd went crazy for Ohtani's home run, especially his National League teammates. Here are some reactions from the All-Star Game and from social media.

Longest home runs in MLB All-Star Game history

Ohtani's home run landed just outside the list of the top five longest home runs in All-Star Game history, per Sportskeeda .

The top three home runs were all hit in the same year, during the 2021 All-Star Game at Coors Field in Denver. The altitude of Denver's ballpark, which sits about a mile above sea level, helps hits that travel about 10% farther than they would at no altitude.

    Player Home run distance Year
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 468 feet 2021
    Mike Zunino 433 feet 2021
    J.T. Realmuto 430 feet 2021
    Kris Bryant 410 feet 2016
    Joey Votto 409 feet 2018
