Dodgers trade deadline target dominates in All-Star Game

If the Los Angeles Dodgers were looking for additional reasons to covet Chicago White Sox starter Garrett Crochet ahead of this month's trade deadline, they got one on Tuesday night.

Crochet looked excellent in his inning of work in the 2024 MLB All-Star Game. He threw 18 pitches and averaged 97.8 MPH on the fastball, finishing with a hit allowed and strikeout in the frame.

He faced four National League hitters in total: Christian Yelich, Alec Bohm, Teoscar Hernández, and Jurickson Profar. He allowed the single to Bohm, but struck out Hernández and induced a groundball from Profar to work out of it. Yelich had started the inning with a groundout.

It's a single inning in a game few to take super seriously as far as outcomes go. But it still seems worth noting that among those four hitters, Yelich ranks second in the league in batting average. Profar sits ninth and Bohm is 15th. Say what you want about the statistic itself, that's a very good group of hitters that Crochet managed with decent ease.

Not that a labored outing would have been any cause for concern or led the Dodgers to flip their perception on Crochet's ability as a starting pitcher. But when you're a team connected to one of the higher profile names available on the trade market, you'll want to scoop up all of the positives within that pursuit.

Add Tuesday under the lights in Arlington to the list.
