Former Lakers star Kermit Washington spoke about Bronny James ' recent performances in the NBA Summer League. Washington expressed genuine concern for Bronny's performances and shared his belief that it could be affecting Bronny's mental health, which in turn is impacting his confidence and improvement.

"They're really trying to help LeBron's son be successful. But, just in my opinion, and it bothers me, is that he's not ready for pro ball. Because he's 6'1, he's a point guard and he has to have really good handles and he really doesn't have really good handles yet. Next, you have to be a good outside shooter, and he's not a good outside shooter."

"I feel bad for him because I know, even though you see him smiling, he's suffering inside. And he's trying to find out 'How can I make it?'. He has no confidence out there at all. So if I was LeBron, first of all, I would say to my son 'Okay, we gotta get you in tremendous shape where you can play defense, you can hustle, you can beat people up and down the court'."

"(Bronny) reminds me a lot of Gary Payton's son. He just hustles and he's a very aggressive player... People say LeBron's son is making a lot of money. Well, he's never been without. He doesn't know what it is like to not have money. So he doesn't have that desire to be such a great player to make money and help his family."

"I hope that they work with him and they're slow with him. I don't want to see something tragic happen because mentally he's not doing well, you can tell. He's struggling out there, you can look at his face. You gotta have a plan for him."

"He's just not ready, but since you've already made him ready, please save the kid. Don't let him suffer out there. You have a game plan - you're going to play this many minutes, play great defense, you gotta be a great hustler. That's the only way this young man is going to be successful."

Bronny James has definitely struggled to adapt to the NBA and has played poorly in the Lakers' Summer League games so far. In fact, he has gone 0-15 from the three-point line and is just shooting 22.5% from the field in his four Summer League games.

Bronny James Not Ready For The NBA

Bronny's consistently poor performances in the NBA Summer League have confirmed suspicions that many had about him prior to him entering the league; Bronny just isn't ready to play at the NBA level yet. He will need some time before he reaches that level consistently.

Bronny is expected to play most of the next year in the G-League , which is the perfect place for him to continue developing and improving his game, as he tries to achieve his dream of playing in the NBA.

JJ Redick shared what his plan for Bronny's development is, and much of it is focusing on Bronny's commitment to defense. Perhaps a year or more in the G-League is exactly what Bronny needs to fulfill his potential and become the best player he possibly can be.

A lot of people have made jokes and had fun at Bronny's expense. But the mental strength it must take as a player who is the son of one of the all-time greats, putting up some poor performances and not living up to that name must be immense. Patience will hopefully pay off for all of Bronny's supporters.
