The Television Academy announced the nominees for the 2024 Emmy Awards early Wednesday morning from the El Capitan theater in Los Angeles. The 76th annual celebration — known as television’s biggest night — will take place on September 15, 2024 at the Peacock Theatre in downtown L.A..

Sheryl Lee Ralph, Emmy winner and star of Abbott Elementary , presented the nominations alongside co-presenter Tony Hail, a three-time Emmy award winner and voice actor for Inside Out 2 .

Viewers tuning into the big reveal noticed several repeating names and faces throughout the program.

One such standout was The Bear , which broke the record for the most nominations for a Comedy Series, receiving 23 nominations. The previous record was held by 30 Rock with its 22 nominations — a record it carried for the last 15 years, per the New York Times.

Following closely behind was Hulu’s Only Murders in the Building , receiving 21 nominations.

The most-nominated in the Drama category, and overall for the upcoming ceremony, is Amazon’s Shōgun , with 25 nominations. Among those nominations included Best Drama, Best Actor, Drama and Best Actress, Drama.

The co-presenters also shared the names of several first time Emmy nominees. Selena Gomez was nominated for her role as lead actress in Only Murders in the Building . Good Morning America reports that in similar fashion to Gomez, 35 other first time nominees were announced, including Jonathon Bailey for Fellow Travelers and Dakota Fanning for Ripley .

Lily Gladstone and Kali Reis made history as the first Indigenous females to receive Emmy nominations. Gladstone, who won Best Actress at the 2024 Golden Globe Awards, is nominated for Best Supporting Actress in Hulu’s Under the Bridge . In the same category, Reis is nominated for her role in True Detective: Night Country .

Streaming services performed incredibly well in this year’s Emmy nominations.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Netflix received 107 nominations for work across its platform, taking first among nominations for streaming services. FX followed in a close second with its 93 nominations, the most across the major categories such as Best Comedy and Best Drama.

This feat is quite impressive when noted that FX received these nominations between only nine series whereas Netflix spread its success across 35 programs.

HBO racked up a third place finish in nominations with its respective 91. Meanwhile, Apple TV+ received 70.

Prior to the announcement, Cris Abrego, Chair of Television Academy, joked that it felt like barely any time had passed since the last Emmy Awards. And for good reason. Due to the Writers Guild of America strike taking place from May to September of 2023, the 75th annual Emmy Awards happened just months ago, in January of 2024.

This year’s awards ceremony is honoring work that aired between June of 2023 and May of 2024, said Abrego. Viewers can tune in to ABC on September 15 to see who comes out on top.
