James, the 55th pick in last month's NBA draft, had helped the Lakers beat the Hawks 87-86 on Wednesday, scoring 12 points, his first double-figure scoring game of the summer before the Cavs game Thursday.

In five games this summer, James has averaged 5.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.2 steals per game while shooting 28.6% from the field. He was 0-for-15 from 3-point range over the first four games to drag down his shooting percentage before going 2-for-5 on 3s Wednesday.

James and the Lakers play again Saturday, July 20 against the Chicago Bulls at 7 p.m. ET in their fifth and final game of the Las Vegas NBA Summer League. The game will be broadcast on NBA TV. The Cavs also play their final game that day, playing the Pacers at 5, also on NBA TV. The Pacers feature former Akron Zips star Enrique Freeman, who was drafted in the second round last month. In four summer league games, including two starts, Freeman has averaged 9.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 23.1 minutes per game on 65.2% shooting from the field.
James signed a four-year/$7.9 million contract with the Los Angeles Lakers on Wednesday, July 3 after the Lakers selected the USC guard with the No. 55 overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft. As noted by Field of 68 Network's Jeff Goodman, James' contract with the Lakers is one of the bigger contracts for a player taken with the No. 55 overall pick in recent year. The 6-foot-6 guard has made 15 of 32 shots, including going 3-for-10 on 3s. The Cavs selected him with the 20th pick after Tyson starred at Cal last season.
The Cavaliers guard, who was their second-round pick a year ago, is averaging 17.0 points and 1.7 assists through three games, shooting 42.5% from the floor (17-of-40) and 38.9% on 3-pointers (7-of-18). Emoni Bates has been averaging 21 minutes per game.
The former Revere High School graduate averaged 8.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.4 blocks in 19 minutes a game over the first three summer league games. Pete Nance has made 9 of 17 shoots from the floor and 4 of 9 3-pointers. He’s entering his second year with the Cavs after starring in college at Northwestern and North Carolina. he scored over 1,000 career points in college. Nance, 24, appeared in eight games with the Cavaliers last season and played 26 games with their NBA G-League team, the Cleveland Charge. He averaged 13.7 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.6 blocks in 26 games with the Charge.
Signed as a free agent, Craig Porter Jr. saw significant minutes with the Cavs at various times last season as a point guard, especially when the team dealt with assorted backcourt injuries. He’s been productive in the summer league. Through three games, he’s averaged 13.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 4.0 assists in 22.7 minutes per game.
The rookie free agent big man who led NC State to the Final Four this past season, has averaged 11.7 minutes per game through the first three games in Vegas with the Cavaliers. DJ Burns has averaged 5.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game, shooting 7-for-12 from the field.
The former St. Vincent-St. Mary High School star has appeared in two of the Cavs first three summer league games. Jayvon Graves totaled four points, three rebounds and two assists in 14 minutes of action. The 6-3 Graves is a free agent who spent the 2021-22 season in the NBA G-League with the Austin Spurs before spending the past two seasons playing in France and then Germany where he was double-figure scorer at both stops. The 2017 STVM grad was a four-year player in college at Buffalo, scoring more than 1,000 points.
