Dodgers Fall in Latest National Power Rankings Heading Into Second Half

The Los Angeles Dodgers have dropped in Newsweek’s national MLB power rankings for the second week in a row, once again falling one spot. The Dodgers now rank No. 5 overall in MLB. The Philadelphia Phillies, Cleveland Guardians, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees all rank ahead of the Dodgers.

The Dodgers drop in the rankings after losing six of their last seven games. They got swept by the Phillies, who proved they are clearly in a different tier than the Dodgers. Following the sweep, the Dodgers lost their series against the Detroit Tigers over the weekend. The Dodgers could have easily swept the series, but blew leads in back-to-back games.

In addition, the Dodgers have fallen because the Yankees have rebounded from their own tough stretch. They won two out of their last three games heading into the All-Star Break.

The Dodgers have dropped to 56-41, while the top four teams all have at least 58 wins and 40 losses or fewer.

Injuries have plagued the Dodgers as of late, especially when it comes to the team’s pitching. Starters Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, and Clayton Kershaw and relievers Joe Kelly, Brusdar Graterol, and Ryan Brasier are all on the injured list. Gavin Stone and James Paxton are the only pitchers from the Dodgers’ starting rotation in May that remain on the team’s active roster.

The Dodgers are hopeful the All-Star Break will allow them to reset and get several of their stars back in the near future. Kelly and Glasnow are expected to return shortly after the All-Star Break. If the Dodgers cannot get back on track following the break, it could spell trouble for the team heading into the second half of the season.
