The U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg , traveled to the Exposition Park area after taking a tour of the L.A. Metro with Mayor Karen Bass , County Supervisor Janice Hahn , and other officials to announce more than $200 million in federal money slated for Los Angeles.

As KNX News' Nataly Tavidian reports, the funding will be used on zero-emission buses and charging stations in hopes of decreasing pollution and preparing L.A. to host the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games .

"The main construct of this infrastructure package and the 54,000 projects that it's supporting is based on the awareness that none of the ideas have to come from Washington," Buttigieg said. "The ideas come from the community. The funding comes from Washington to help turn those ideas into reality."

He said they have awarded $139 million through their Reconnecting Communities initiative , which aims to improve public transportation and benefit the community.

"That means buses running more frequently and more priority bus lanes - which means more bus service and quicker, more efficient, and more reliable."

The city of L.A. receives about $80 million of that money. The new electric buses will run on multiple lines throughout L.A. County.
