A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Desouza began his career after being mentored and coached by the late actor Robert F. Chew ( The Wire ). He went on to study at the University of Maryland, College Park, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in computer science before becoming a software engineer. However, he knew he loved acting and was determined to follow his passion. After a few years of working in the field, Desouza quit his day job to give him the flexibility to pursue a career in acting. In less than 12 months, Desouza landed his first big break, a lead role on Max’s Emmy-nominated series Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty as NBA star Michael Cooper.
