Max Muncy Remains Without Timetable for Return to Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers are expecting to get several players back from the injured list as the second half of the season gets underway but the return of third baseman Max Muncy is still questionable.

Muncy was initially placed on the 10-day IL back on May 17 due to a right oblique strain. Manager Dave Roberts was hopeful that the injury would be minor and that Muncy would return to the lineup promptly but that hasn’t been the case. He has experienced multiple setbacks and now finds himself on the 60-day IL.

According to Fabian Ardays of The Athletic, Muncy picked up a bat for soft toss swings on Friday. However, there is “still no real timetable for a return.”

Muncy also joined “Foul Territory” and detailed his recovery process and why it hasn’t been going as smoothly as anticipated.

“I’ve tried several times to start ramping things up,” said Muncy. “For me, it’s more my body just hasn’t cooperated and bounced back to a lot of the treatments we’ve been trying to do. We can’t necessarily figure out why that is.

“I’ve gone in and done testing multiple times, done a whole bunch of scans and images. We’ve just really struggled to put our finger on what’s been going on. That’s why it’s taken longer than what we thought.”

At this rate, Muncy won’t return until at least August but he could be out longer if he isn’t at 100 percent. The Dodgers have a long history of not rushing players back if they aren’t fully ready to go and with the trade deadline less than two weeks away, they could bring in someone as a rental.
