The collision occurred in the 5700 block of West Obama Boulevard at South La Cienega Boulevard shortly before 2 a.m. Tuesday.

A man who happened to be at a convenience store nearby at the time of the incident, witnessed a vehicle speed off after striking a female pedestrian who was launched into the air.

The unidentified witness spoke with Key News Network on camera just outside the store, and said he was opening and closing the door for customers and just happened to be looking in the direction of where the incident unfolded.

He said that he saw “a man and woman coming across the street, and somebody honked, and the man jumped out of the way and got on the curb but the girl didn’t make it to the curb and she got hit. She flew from…across the intersection to where she’s laying.”

The witness said the vehicle stopped, but when he walked up behind it with his phone – it took off. He sent a light-colored car to go chase it and get the tags. It was unclear if that driver was successful in locating the vehicle.

The male was visibly devastated as he lay next to his covered female companion curbside in the street with his arm around her. The female had been pronounced deceased at the scene. Firefighters stood in silence nearby.

Los Angeles police officers responded and cordoned off the area for their investigation.

Anyone else who has witnessed this fatal hit-and-run collision is asked to call the LAPD.

This is initial information from the scene at the time of the incident. Any additional details and updates will be added to this report.
