LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A woman who was walking in a crosswalk near Baldwin Hills, apparently with her boyfriend, was fatally struck Tuesday by a driver who fled the scene.

Los Angeles Police Department officers were called at 1:55 a.m. to 5798 W. Obama Blvd. near La Cienega Boulevard, where they learned a dark colored vehicle was being driven north on La Cienega and struck the pedestrian, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were contacted and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Video from the scene showed a man who appeared to be the woman's boyfriend distraught over the woman's body. He did not appear to be injured.

The vehicle drove away from the scene without stopping and police were examining debris the vehicle might have left behind.

"There is evidence left behind, so like I said, we're doing some follow-up and further investigation right now," LAPD Sgt. Kevin Ahlemeir told an OnScene.TV videographer.

Ahlemeir said the vehicle that struck the woman is believed to be a dark-colored Toyota Camry.
