The man charged with breaking into Mayor Karen Bass’ Getty House residence entered a no contest plea to felony vandalism on Wednesday.

Ephraim Hunter was given two years probation instead of jail time and was ordered to stay away from L.A. City Hall, Getty House, and Bass for three years. In addition, he must pay $15,777.07 in restitution and attend a drug treatment as well as be in a halfway house living situation.

On April 21, Hunter was arrested after he broke into the Getty House while Bass and her family were inside. In an interview with KNX News’ Jon Baird , Hunter said he had no idea that Bass was living there and that he had been on a five-day drug binge.

The 29-year-old, who said he was high on methamphetamine, thought someone was chasing him so he got off the bus and ended up in Bass’ neighborhood. He broke into her house so he could hide.

He also said at the time he hoped that he could end up in a drug diversion program instead of prison.
