Garrett Crochet Trade to Los Angeles Dodgers ‘Feels Inevitable’

We’re rapidly approaching the July 30 MLB trade deadline, and Los Angeles Dodgers trade rumors are only heating up. They enter the deadline in firm control of first place in the NL West, with a commanding 7.5-game lead over the San Diego Padres. Yet, the Dodgers are also in a very competitive division, not only battling the Padres but also the reigning NL champions in the Arizona Diamondbacks.
While the Dodgers look like one of the best teams in MLB today, they have a long way to go before earning a trip back to the World Series. Typically an aggressive team, it wouldn’t surprise anyone if the Dodgers made a significant roster addition before the trade deadline passes, and they’re involved in several potential moves.
One player who’s been frequently linked to the Dodgers is Chicago White Sox All-Star lefty Garrett Crochet. The White Sox aren’t going anywhere this season, so anyone and everyone in the Windy City is available via trade, but Crochet is still under contract until 2027, so he’s no guarantee to be dealt.
Yet, one MLB insider feels differently. In fact, he believes a Crochet trade to the Dodgers is bound to happen in the next week.
Of course, like any trade, making a move for Crochet carries a great amount of risk for the Dodgers. Previously a reliever, this is the first season Crochet has been operating as a starting pitcher in MLB. He’s also only pitched 66.3 innings with the White Sox since 2021, and he’s already nearly doubled that workload, with 111.1 IP this season.
Others have concerns that Crochet may not be able to hold up over a full season as a starter, meaning the Dodgers may have to skip some starts or possibly move him back to the bullpen down the stretch to try to prevent any potential injury. Yet, when he’s pitching so well, taking him off the mound is much easier said than done.
There’s also the cost factor. Crochet is viewed as one of the best pitchers available at the trade deadline, so any deal would likely involve several high-level prospects and/or MLB-ready talent in exchange. Yet, an expensive price point has never prevented the Dodgers before. We’ll see if that changes this week.
