The Dodgers will likely do the heavy lifting required to add depth to their depleted pitching staff between now and next Tuesday’s trade deadline.

In the meantime, the team’s front office is continuing to scour the waiver wire in search of help at the minor league levels — which have themselves been depleted to fill out the major league staff amid injuries to Clayton Kershaw, Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Walker Buehler, and relievers Brusdar Graterol, Ryan Brasier and Michael Grove.

Enter Jordan Lyles. The 33-year-old right-hander was recently released by the Kansas City Royals on Saturday. Now, according to multiple reports Thursday, Lyles will sign a minor league contract with the Dodgers.

According to Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times, Lyles will head to the Dodgers’ Arizona Complex League affiliate first to build up his arm strength.

Lyles is a veteran of 14 major league seasons with the Houston Astros, Colorado Rockies, San Diego Padres, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles and Royals. He made five scoreless appearances for the Royals this year before being placed on the restricted list in April for personal reasons.

Lyles is 72-107 in his career with a 5.22 earned-run average. He’s made 245 of his 357 appearances as a starting pitcher, and was in the Royals’ rotation as recently as last year.
