The Hip-Hop community is still reeling from PnB Rock’s tragic murder in September 2022 and things will get more difficult as litigation is now fully underway. The Philadelphia artist’s murder trial officially began in Los Angeles this week.

Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Timothy Richardson delivered his opening statement to a jury of four women and eight men. He revealed that, days before the trial, the prosecution obtained footage that showed one of the suspects, Freddie Trone , instructing his 17-year-old son to enter the Roscoe’s Chicken ‘N Waffles that Rock was dining at and rob and shoot him.

Trone’s lawyer, Winston McKesson, attempted to refute the claim and what took place in the footage, citing it as “guesswork” done by the State. “My client, Freddie Trone, did not pull the trigger,” McKesson said. “He was not inside the restaurant at the time. This charge of murder is the most serious charge. We have to have evidence to support it.”

Freddie Trone pled not guilty to one count of murder, two counts of robbery, and a count of conspiracy to commit a felony. Winston McKesson doubled down on his defense for his client, saying, “You will hear no evidence that he planned this with his son. That he instructed his son to do this, or he egged him on. They will have evidence that my client did help his son cover this up. We’re not disputing that. What we’re saying is the gunman acted alone.”

Tremont Jones is another man implicated in the case. He pled not guilty to two charges of robbery, conspiracy to rob, and illegally possessing a firearm as a felon. The prosecution always claims that Jones made Trone and his son aware of PnB Rock’s location the night before he was killed.

Rock was dining with his girlfriend Stephanie Sibounheuang when the tragedy occurred. A month after he passed, she shared a statement expressing her gratitude to the slain rapper for saving her life. “I am 100% not ok. If I wasn’t spiritual I could kill my self (but then I’ll go to hell and my man not there),” the social media influencer wrote. “My man saved my life, Throwing me under that table. I’m not supposed to be here but bc of him. I am. No one would be able to handle this. TBH, I can’t even handle this.”
