Dodgers All-Star first baseman Freddie Freeman and his wife, Chelsea, went through every parent’s worst nightmare Wednesday, having to take their young son to the emergency room.

Chelsea posted in an Instagram story on Wednesday that the couple’s 3-year-old son, Maximus, had come down with what is believed to be transient synovitis — an ailment that can cause extreme pain and discomfort in the hip — and later revealed that she had to take him to a local ER, where Freddie Freeman met them after the Dodgers fell 8-3 to the rival Giants.

Maximus had developed it from a viral infection he had during last week’s MLB All-Star festivities, according to Chelsea’s post.

But the situation appeared to worsen after Chelsea revealed in a follow-up post on Thursday afternoon that she took Maximus to the ER on Wednesday night after he had stopped eating and drinking and became “very lethargic.”

After tests and bloodwork panels — Chelsea said the young Maximus was “very brave” and didn’t cry when they took two attempts to get an IV into him — everything came back negative and that there was no infection or virus.

“Everything is consistent with transient synovitis,” Chelsea wrote in the post, while also revealing that they had been discharged from the hospital at 3:30 a.m. PT. “He still cannot bear any weight to stand or walk so we will be closely monitoring him. If he doesn’t improve in 48 [hours] he needs to go back to the hospital.”

The post included an image of Freeman lying in a hospital bed with his son.

The Dodgers first baseman was back in the lineup for Thursday’s afternoon win over the Giants to close out the four-game series, going 1-for-4.

Chelsea closed out her post by praising the hospital staff and thanking everyone for their support.

“There is really nothing worse than seeing your child in pain,” she wrote. “My heart breaks for all the families that have it worse. Thank you so much for the prayers.”
