The Dodgers are calling up Hunter Feduccia from Triple-A Oklahoma City, Dodgers Nation has learned. Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic was first to report the news:

The Dodgers played a man short Friday, when Freddie Freeman was a late scratch and returned to Los Angeles to be with his family . Freeman is not expected back this weekend, manager Dave Roberts told reporters in Houston.

Given the nature of Freeman’s absence — his son is battling an illness — the Dodgers could place Freeman on the restricted list to open a roster spot for Feduccia while he’s away.

Feduccia, 27, was a 12th-round draft pick by the Dodgers out of LSU in 2018. He was added to the Dodgers’ 40-man roster last November to protect him from being selected in the Rule 5 draft. He has yet to make his major league debut.

Feduccia is hitting .295, with a .420 on-base percentage and .451 slugging percentage in 64 games at Triple-A Oklahoma City this year. He’s split his time exclusively at catcher (57 games) and DH (seven games) this year.

Friday in Oklahoma City, Feduccia drew a walk to extend his career-best on-base streak to 28 games — the longest on-base streak of the season by an Oklahoma City player. During the streak that started June 6, Feduccia has 27 hits with 17 RBI, 27 walks and 12 runs scored.

Feduccia and catcher Diego Cartaya are the only players on the Dodgers 40-man roster who are not either on the team’s active 26-man roster or on the injured list.

A native of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Feduccia’s family is expected to be in attendance at Minute Maid Park for the second game of the series between the Dodgers and Astros on Saturday.
