Garrett Crochet’s Requests ‘Stunned’ GMs, Per Report; Are Dodgers Out?

Garrett Crochet has been the No. 1 target for several teams looking to add a game-changing starting pitcher, but he revealed some alarming news that has general managers hesitating to strike a deal with the league’s worst team.

Crochet told reporters he plans to pitch through the end of the regular season and skip a potential playoff run with a new team unless he receives a contract extension. The statement left GMs around the league stunned.

“Why,” one GM asked, “would I want to get a guy who doesn’t want to pitch in the playoffs?”

The Los Angeles Dodgers have the money to sign Crochet to an extension. His ask is similar to that of Tyler Glasnow, who wanted an extension to waive his no-trade clause. The difference between the two is that Crochet doesn’t have playoff experience.

An extension would give Crochet job security. He has endured a couple of injuries throughout his career that would hinder his potential extension offers if he were to get hurt again before signing with a new team. He’s only making $800,000 and deserves a payday after what he’s done this season.

Los Angeles shouldn’t be considered completely out but Crochet is unproven beyond the regular season and has only been with the White Sox, a team that has been in the cellar without an inning of playoff baseball.

Call him greedy, but it sounds more like Crochet is simply scared of going somewhere new and potentially getting hurt. He’s also never been traded before. He was drafted by Chicago in 2020 and has only worn black and white. It’s all unchartered waters for the lefty, but the Dodgers are best suited to make a run at him ahead of Tuesday’s trade deadline.
