Dodgers’ Bobby Miller Struggles in Triple-A Tuneup

If Bobby Miller’s rehab start with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday was an indicator of how he is improving, he is trending in the wrong direction.

Simply put, it was a disaster.

Miller completed just 3.2 innings and allowed six runs (five earned) with three walks and only one strikeout.

Heading into the 2024 season, Miller appeared to be primed for a superb season. He posted a 3.76 ERA in 22 starts and 124.1 innings as a rookie. Through seven starts this year, he had an ERA of 8.07 ERA.

However, this season hasn’t gone according to plan. He has been dealing with the effects of a shoulder injury that forced him to miss two months and has been working closely with Dodgers coaches after being optioned to the minor leagues just before the All-Star break.

“It was a combination of an injury, and a little bit of like, that sophomore [slump], where you’re on the map, people know you, have a better idea [of how to attack you],” said pitching coach Mark Prior. “Our confidence is, when Bobby’s right, we know he has a five-pitch mix that really plays.”

Miller’s first rehab start showed an uptick in velocity, which was a step in the right direction. It also proved that the drills he was practicing were working.

The right-hander wants to better himself to help the Dodgers down the stretch and into the playoffs. Perhaps, pitching in the minor leagues is where he needs to be to regain his confidence.

“This is gonna be a huge motivator for me moving forward,” added Miller. “Maybe going through this is gonna make me even better than I was before.”
