Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) has been named the most sleep-friendly airport in the United States, according to a recent study by cpap.com, a provider of sleep apnea equipment. The ever-busy West Coast hub, often associated with Hollywood glamour and traffic congestion, emerged as an unexpected spot for those looking to catch some shut-eye during layovers or delays.

LAX’s claim to the sleep-friendly throne is primarily attributed to its impressive array of 24 lounges, eight specifically catering to international travelers. These spaces provide a peaceful escape from the main terminal areas, with plush couches, less noise, and, in many instances, facilities like showers and sleeping pods.

    A Trend Towards Traveler Comfort

While abundant lounges contributed to LAX’s top ranking, the study considered various factors contributing to a restful airport experience. These included accessibility to massage chairs, minute suites, benches without armrests (perfect for stretching out), free wi-fi, charging stations, and 24-hour food options.

LAX’s win is part of a broader trend in airport design and services that prioritizes passenger comfort. This shift in perspective is also evident in the other top-ranking U.S. airports. New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) rounded out the top three, each offering desirable restful amenities.

This list provides valuable information for passengers when planning trips with long layovers or potential delays. Knowing that an airport is sleep-friendly can reduce stress and improve overall journey satisfaction. As cpap.com noted, “It’s no secret that traveling can be a stressful endeavor, especially considering long flights and layovers. While most look forward to relaxing at their final destinations, what if the vacation could start before leaving the tarmac?”
