Dodgers in Trade Discussions for Gold Glove Utility Man: Report

With the trade deadline approaching on Tuesday at 3 p.m. PT, the Los Angeles Dodgers don’t have a lot of time left to upgrade the roster. Los Angeles has been one of the more active teams around baseball, talking with opposing squads in the hope of striking some deals.

The Dodgers have been looking to add another bat to the team and are reportedly considering making a move for a utilityman from the NL Central. According to Fabian Ardaya and Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic , Los Angeles is in discussions with the St. Louis Cardinals.

Edman hasn’t played for the Cardinals this season after offseason surgery on his wrist so any move for him would be a risk. But the Dodgers are doing their due diligence on Edman before a trade goes down.

MLB insider Jon Heyman also confirmed the Dodgers’ interest in Edman, saying that Los Angeles has liked him for a long time.

Last season, Edman hit .248 with 13 home runs and 47 runs batted in. His versatility in playing both the infield and outfield would help solve multiple problems for the Dodgers, likely sparking the interest in acquiring him.

Edman is under team control through 2025 so Los Angeles would get him for at least the rest of this year and next. He is also a switch-hitter, potentially giving the Dodgers even more flexibility when placing him in a lineup.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman has been known for his projects and Edman could be the next due to his injury. Edman has been dealing with a sprained ankle during his rehab but could return sometime in August to help whatever team he is on for the stretch run.
