The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the New York Yankees on Monday in an epic bidding war for a coveted Gold Glover.

Heading into the final 24 hours of the trade deadline, both Los Angeles and New York were still seeking infield help. Tommy Edman of the St. Louis Cardinals had become an intriguing target of late for both franchises due to his versatility.

Although Edman has not played a game this season, his recovery from wrist surgery is going smoothly, and he is expected to return to Major League action imminently.

In an attempt to pry Edman away from the Cardinals, the Yankees reportedly floated starter Nestor Cortes to St. Louis, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

Getting wind of these negotiations, the Dodgers swooped in and capitalized on St. Louis' desire to acquire Erick Fedde of the Chicago White Sox by engaging in conversations with Chicago to organize a three-team trade with the Cardinals.

On Monday afternoon, a deal was announced by Jon Heyman of the New York Post that landed Edman in Los Angeles, Fedde in St. Louis, and multiple prospects in Chicago. New York found itself as the odd man out.

The Dodgers reportedly also landed reliever Michael Kopech from the White Sox in the trade.

The deal was an enormous win for Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes.

Los Angeles acquired two proven pros while simultaneously flexing their ability to outbid the most historically powerful franchise in Major League Baseball.
