White Sox receive: OF Miguel Vargas, INF Alexander Albertus, INF Jeral Perez, PTBNL/cash from LAD

    Dodgers Full Trade Analysis

Receive: INF/OF Tommy Edman, RHP Michael Kopech, RHP Oliver Gonzalez

Trade Away: OF Miguel Vargas, INF Alexander Albertus, INF Jeral Perez, two PTBNL or cash

How Will the Dodgers Use Tommy Edman?

Edman can play all over the infield and outfield, and will likely fill in at third base and shortstop while Max Muncy, Mookie Betts, and Miguel Rojas remain out. Additionally, Edman can play center field, which will be helpful as Andy Pages continues to struggle defensively.

Edman is a career .265 hitter with an OPS of .726. He has 89 stolen bases over the last three years.

    Who is Oliver Gonzalez?

Gonzalez is a 17-year-old right-handed pitcher from Panama. He signed for $400,000 in the most recent international class and has pitched 21.1 innings in the Dominican Summer League this season, sporting a 4.22 ERA.

How Will the Dodgers Use Michael Kopech?

Kopech’s stats don’t jump off the page as he has a 4.74 ERA, but the Dodgers are likely excited about his high strikeout rate and whiff percentage.

Kopech has a 30.9 strikeout percentage and 30.6 whiff percentage. He also ranks in the 99th percentile in fastball velocity.

The Dodgers will likely make a quick adjustment and turn him into a dominant high-leverage arm.
