This Mom Didn’t Understand Why Her Daughter Was So Excited About “Some Hillbilly Dude” Named Post Malone Performing with Dwight Yoakam

Over the weekend Dwight Yoakam performed at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles, California. During his set, he brought out Post Malone to perform a handful of classics. They teamed up for “Guitars, Cadillacs,” “Fast as You,” “Little Ways,” and more. For some, it was like watching two generations of the genre coming together to deliver some country gold. For others, though, it seemed like Yoakam invited “some hillbilly dude” to sing with him.

Dwight Yoakam has been carrying the torch of the Bakersfield Sound since he released his debut single “Honky Tonk Man” in 1986. While many younger fans found and enjoy his music, much of his fanbase is older. On the other hand, Post Malone burst onto the scene with his hip-hop single “White Iverson” in 2015. Since then, Malone has floated between hip-hop and pop. However, he has always had the desire to do country music. After years of talking about it, he finally started crossing over into the genre when he appeared on HARDY’s latest Hixtape.

Dwight Yoakam Fan Doesn’t Know Who Post Malone Is

TikTok user Allybrake recently posted a video in which she put her mom on blast for not knowing who Post Malone was. “My parents came home and said they saw some hillbilly dude named Post Malone guest star at their country concert last night,” she wrote in the video. “I can’t believe this.”

In the video, they’re looking through pictures on Allybrake’s mom’s phone. The photos show Malone and Yoakam onstage together. “Who did you see perform last night and you didn’t even know?” she asked. “Some hillbilly dude,” her mom replied.

Excitedly, the young fan asked, “Post Malone?!” But her mom was more focused on the Bakersfield Sound torchbearer. “With Dwight Yoakam,” she clarified.

It’s a hilarious exchange. However, there’s a lesson to be learned here. Many kids tend to think that their parents’ music is incredibly uncool and behind the times. However, if Yoakam can get Malone onstage to perform a few of his oldest and best-loved songs, he must be much more hip than some younger fans believe.
