Dodgers failed to properly bolster 'beleaguered bullpen', claims insider

The Los Angeles Dodgers made positive improvements to their roster at the deadline, but they may have neglected their bullpen to a culpable degree.

There's no doubt that adding Tommy Edman and Jack Flaherty were huge wins for the Dodgers and president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.

Edman and Flaherty were each highly coveted by contenders for a reason, and both players will contribute to more wins for Los Angeles as it eyes a serious title run.

The Dodgers are one of the most complete teams in Major League Baseball, but injuries have left them far short of perfect, even with the new additions. One area where Los Angeles lacks proven depth is relief pitching, and Friedman didn't go out of his way to trade for a stud late-inning arm.

The Dodgers did acquire Michael Kopech from the Chicago White Sox in the Edman deal, but Kopech has been inconsistent and is not a sure bet to fortify Los Angeles' 'pen.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale acknowledged the Dodgers' relief pitching issues on Tuesday night in a report that lauded Friedman's moves overall.

"The knock is that they didn’t acquire a closer or proven setup man for their beleaguered bullpen, hoping that they can suddenly fix Kopech," Nightengale said.

Los Angeles is hoping that the moves they did make will outweigh the ones they didn't and that their already talented roster will have enough to make a deep playoff run.

Despite injuries, expectations remain high at Dodger Stadium. It's World Series or bust.
