Your SoCal Weather Report For Wednesday, July 31: Warming trend begins

Happy Wednesday! It'll be a few degrees hotter today ahead of a warming trend that forecasters say will last into early next week.

It will be sunny later today after the clouds move away, hitting the mid 70s to mid 80s around the L.A. area.

It'll be warmer in the San Gabriel, Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys, reaching the lower 90s. In Orange County it'll be in the low 70s at the beaches to the 80s inland.

Riverside County valleys and Inland Empire areas will be in the 90s to about 100 degrees today.

It's going to get warmer the rest of this week, especially Friday and Saturday. There is also a chance of dangerously hot conditions developing over the weekend.

Because of the monsoonal moisture flowing into the region, the marine layer that's been fairly thick along the coasts will likely be broken up.

Due to the Nixon Fire in Riverside County, there will also be relatively poor air quality throughout the Inland Empire at least until Thursday. The fire is polluting the air with fine particulates that make it difficult to breathe. Cities most affected currently include Ontario, Riverside, San Bernardino and Corona.

This day in history

On this day in 2023, a haboob was produced in the outflow of decaying thunderstorms in the lower deserts. Gusts of wind over 40 mph occurred for an hour across the region and visibility was reduced to one quarter mile at Thermal and Palm Springs airports.

This latest bout of Summer heat provides a good opportunity to enjoy some live events. Here's something to do that will keep you cool in the afternoon and evening:

• Outlaw Fest : — Hollywood Bowl — 2301 N. Highland Ave., Hollywood — When Willie Nelson calls and asks you to play with him, you say yes. We have to assume that’s what happened when the lineup for Outlaw Fest came together. Nelson and his family band join music icons Bob Dylan and John Mellencamp as well as rising country star Brittney Spencer at the Bowl for an event that starts early and will surely jam till Bowl curfew.
