Los Angeles Dodgers star pitcher Clayton Kershaw has been one of the best in the MLB for a long time. After making his long-awaited 2024 debut against the San Francisco Giants on July 25, he threw four innings, giving up two runs on six hits.

Unfortunately, Wednesday night did not go well for him. Kershaw went just 3.2 innings, giving up seven runs (three earned) on six hits with zero strikeouts.

In fact, this was a historically bad outing for Kershaw, as Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reported.

"Clayton Kershaw got two swings and misses Wednesday night. It marked his first-ever regular-season start without recording a strikeout," Ardaya explained.

After the game, Kershaw couldn't help but express his frustration.

"There was a lot of things I was missing," Kershaw said, per Ardaya. "Just wasn’t executing. Wasn’t throwing really anything that I wanted to, where I wanted to. Frustrating overall.”

The Padres scored four runs in the second inning and three in the fourth, sending Kershaw to the dugout earlier than expected.

The lefty threw 83 pitches and gave up a home run, but he didn't record a strikeout for the first time in his career. Before Wednesday, he had gone 423 starts with a strikeout, so it was a very uncharacteristic night for Kershaw at Petco Park.

On top of that, the Dodgers finished July with a 11-13 record, marking the first time since 2018 they have recorded a losing record in any month.

So, times are rough in LA, even after adding talent at the trade deadline. Nonetheless, Kershaw is just focused on the next one.

“There’s a lot you can overanalyze when you pitch bad,” Kershaw said. "But for right now I’m just going to say it was bad and try to pitch better the next one.”
