Freddie Freeman’s 3-year-old son, Maximus, is hospitalized with a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome.

The All-Star Dodgers first baseman’s wife, Chelsea, revealed Thursday that their son “rapidly declined and went into full body paralysis” last Friday, although she indicated that the worst part of the scary situation might be behind the family.

“We are very fortunate to have gotten him to the hospital in time so they could reinforce his lungs,” Chelsea wrote on Instagram . “Freddie was in Houston at the time and rushed to the first flight back home. After many tests, Max is battling a severe case of Guillain-Barré syndrome. A rare neurological condition that is especially rare in children.

“These have been the hardest and scariest days of our lives,” she continued. “Maximus is such a special boy and he has been fighting SO hard. This is going to be a journey to recover, but we have faith that he will be completely healed. We have been blown away by his improvements in the last 48 hours. Maximus was excavated from his breathing tube and taken off of the ventilator yesterday, which is a huge win for us. We believe in the power of prayer and we have been witnessing a miracle in his recovery.

Chelsea took Maximus to the hospital after he had stopped eating and drinking and became “very lethargic” on July 24 — Freddie would later meet them there after the Dodgers’ game against the Giants.

At the time, the couple believed their son had developed transient synovitis from a viral infection he had during the All-Star Game.

Freeman left the team in Houston, where the Dodgers were starting a three-game series against the Astros, last Friday to be with his sick son.

He’s missed each of Los Angeles’ last five games as he tends to Maximus.
