Sabrina Carpenter has debuted a new song from her upcoming album with lyrics that could be another potential dig at boyfriend Barry Keoghan .

The popstar releases her highly anticipated sixth studio album Short n' Sweet later this month but gave fans a sneak peek of one of the album's previously unheard songs during a performance at the weekend.

Carpenter took the stage at the Grammy Museum's Clive Davis Theater in Los Angeles and gave stripped-down performances of Espresso and Please, Please, Please before surprising the crowd with unreleased song Slim Pickins.

"This one's cute and I just like, wanted to sing it for you today," Carpenter said before the performance. "Super random of me so it's called ‘Slim Pickins’ and I hope you like it."

The lines of the song have caused a bit of a stir as in her typical witty way, Carpenter sings about being forced to settle for subpar lovers because she can't have the person she really loves.

Carpenter singing the opening lines of the song says: "Guess I'm in this life alone. I am not dramatic, these are just the thoughts that pass right through me".

She continues: "Oh, it's slim pickings, If I can't have the one I love, Guess it's you that I'll be kissing, Just to get my fixings, Since the good ones are deceased or taken ."

The 25-year-old goes on to question "what a girl's to do" when "this boy doesn't even know the difference between "their," "there" and "they are" .

It's not the first time the singer has landed herself in hot water over references to exes in her music. Carpenter sparked fury from fans after she appeared to slam boyfriend Barry Keoghan's ex in hit tune Espresso.

Outraged followers of the famous couple appeared to take offense to one line in particular as they jumped to defend Barry's ex-girlfriend and the mother of his son, Alyson Sandro . The conversation on social media was prompted after Alyson was seen liking a post about “mothers raising their kids practically by themselves.”

In Espresso, Carpenter sings “too bad your ex don’t do it for ya". One fan scathed: “'Too bad your ex don’t do it for ya' would light a fire under me , forget the high road cause nobody else is on it. It just feels like she always needs everyone to know she’s the better option ."
