International Surf Festival returns to South Bay for 61st year
Volleyball and surfing will take center stage this weekend during the 61st International Surf Festival, with multiple events taking place across the South Bay. The competition, which runs through Sunday, Aug. 4, will open at 9 a.m. Friday with the Charlie Saikley Volleyball Tournament in Manhattan Beach. That evening, the Los Angeles County Lifeguard Championships, which includes a rescue demo, a six-lifeguard run relay and the Bud Stevenson Intracrew Medley/Relay, will take place at the Hermosa Beach Pier beginning at 7:30 p.m.
California city replaces police cars with Teslas, becoming first city with all-EV fleet
A city in Los Angeles County announced it has become the first in the nation to switch to an all electric police vehicle fleet. The South Pasadena Police Department's zero-emission fleet consists of 20 new Tesla vehicles that will be charged at city hall, according to a news release. The Tesla Model Y police cruisers proved to outperform its gas-powered ones while also being safer, cheaper and eliminating greenhouse gas emissions, the department said.
