The Red Car Trolley at Disney California Adventure will disappear next year. Inspired by L.A.s famed Pacific Electric streetcars, the attraction opened in 2012 as an enhancement to Hollywood Land. The train’s berth is needed for an expansion of the Avengers Campus. “We will discontinue operation of the attraction in early 2025 and will share a specific date later this winter.” Disneyland officials told KTLA .

The Big Red Cars travel along embedded tracks picking up passengers at 4 stops including one in front of a copy of L.A.’s long-gone Carthay Circle theater (where Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered in 1937) and travel along an imaginary version of Hollywood Boulevard of the 1930s. The neighborhood is populated with pint-sized replicas of art deco-era landmarks from all over L.A. ranging from Bullocks Wilshire to Downtown’s Los Angeles Theatre. The moving attraction added kinetic energy and some semblance of period realness to the vintage-inspired land in the same way that the Omnibus and horse-drawn carriage transport visitors to Disneyland’s Main Street, U.S.A. to small-town America at the turn of the 20 th century.

The original Pacific Electric system was the most extensive interurban railway in the world but as freeways began to appear in the 1940s and 50s the entire system was scrapped. Some of the original cars continued service in South America and one was repurposed as a dining room at the Formosa Café . At the Southern California Railway Museum in the Inland Empire, you can actually take a ride in a real-life historic Pacific Electric car and dream about the L.A. of Roger Rabbit . California Adventure’s train barn will make room for two new rides: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.
