LAFC vs Liga Deportiva Alajuelense Preview
Los Angeles Football Club is on fire after winning three games in a row in all competitions. Unfortunately, the 2022 MLS Cup Champions had to miss their first MLS game of 2023 against rivals LA Galaxy due to heavy rain here in California. After waiting a week, LAFC started the...
Bouanga lifts LAFC in Champions League opener
A Denis Bouanga hat-trick in the second half lead LAFC to a 3-0 victory over L.D Alajualense in their CONCACAF Champions League opener. With the second leg to be played Wednesday night at BMO Stadium, yesterday’s result gives the Black and Gold room for rotations. After a first half...
Los Angeles Kings Make Needed Roster Changes at the Deadline
Last week, we wondered what the Los Angeles Kings would do at the trade deadline. We quickly found out the Kings were serious in changing the roster. With goaltender Jonathan Quick being traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for defenseman Vladislav Garikov and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo, this roster would take a drastic turn.
Defense Wins Championships
Defense wins championships. I speak from experience. My first season as a high school girls soccer coach ended after losing the championship game 6-1. The team’s star defender took a college trip to Harvard for a student’s conference and had to miss the game. Her absence was missed. Defense wins championships.
Chicharito Was Missed
Chicharito was missed during the opening game of the season for the LA Galaxy. The team’s offense was missing a key component during the loss against FC Dallas 3 to 1. Javier Hernandez announced during a live Twitch stream that he’s expected to miss 2 to 5 weeks.
The Champ Is Here!
Week 1 for LAFC has gone into the books and make it 6 of 6 when it comes to season debuts! The reigning champions took care of business as they defeated the Portland Timbers 3-2! While the final scoreline looked to be a close one LAFC ran through their opposition with ease. The club looked like they were already in midseason form. Which is remarkable as they will have a daunting 2023 season, dealing with Concacaf, Leagues Cup, U.S Open Cup, and MLS. With the whole team clicking now they can hopefully find a balance of squads to tackle these tournaments. However, there are a few things that need some fine tuning but with the season underway this win was a crucial one.
LAFC home opener: Preview
After extreme weather got in the way of that derby matchup against the LA Galaxy for the season opener, LAFC will play their home opener Saturday against the Portland Timbers. It’ll be the first official match at home since that thrilling MLS Cup final win last November. We’ll look at the previous home openers, what we can expect for this upcoming game and more.
A Proper Debut for the Champions
After the inclement weather cancelled the most highly anticipated game of week 1 ‘El Trafico’. LAFC will make their home debut at BMO Stadium as they will take on their Pacific Northwest rivals the Portland Timbers. Last time these two teams met LAFC walked away with a last-minute victory that crowned them the 2022 MLS Supporters’ Shield. Now Portland will have the opportunity to play spoiler in LAFC’s debut and inaugural game after becoming the 2022 MLS Champions. Portland enters this match after escaping with a narrow 1-0 win against Sporting Kansas City. While LAFC is still play a competitive match since their epic MLS Cup Final game against the Union. It will be interesting to see how fit the team is and if the players can go a full 90 minutes of intense action.
Los Angeles Kings Trade Quick to Columbus in Shocking Trade
The Los Angeles Kings made some noise late last night, trading longtime Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick to the Columbus Blue Jackets. In return, the Kings receive defenseman Vladimir Gavrikov and goaltender Joonas Korpisalo. Los Angeles Kings trade Quick in a blockbuster deal. The Kings’ most pressing need was a left-handed...
Headlines About Meaningless Baseball
After a month of over analyzing the off season of the LA Dodgers, I get to examine meaningless baseball. Welcome to “Headlines about Meaningless Baseball”. When nerding out about the Dodgers this offseason, Gavin Lux was the player that always received my flowers. I expected him to flourish this season.
Welcome to LA, Lucas Calegari
The first week of the 2023 MLS Cup came and went and neither of the LA teams played because of a weather anomaly. Instead of journaling about my experience at the Bowl, let’s welcome Calegari to LA. The Rose Bowl showdown between the LA Galaxy and LAFC was postponed...
El Trafico at Rose Bowl postponed
Every December, the day when the Los Angeles Football Club schedule is announced, LAFC fans’ first team they look up to is their rivals LA Galaxy. When LAFC plays LA Galaxy on a specific date, LAFC fans will cancel other plans, or they may call off work to see their club play against their local rivals.
Season 6 Loading
LAFC kicks off the 2023 season by facing off against city rivals the LA Galaxy. This will mark the clubs sixth season since coming into existence in 2018. They also boast an impressive 6-0 record when it comes to opening day. Adding to the pressure is that this game won’t be played at either of the home teams stadium. Instead, LAFC and LA Galaxy will battle it out at the historic Rose Bowl Stadium in Pasadena. While the venue and setting look to be epic, the game might lack in excitement. As both teams just concluded preseason and are not 100% to go. Also include that there is a possibility of inclement weather the match might not live up to the hype. Both sides could have to prepare to play without an essential player. As Ilie Sanchez picked up an injury and is in doubt for the match. Meanwhile for the Galaxy ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez could also miss the match due to a right hamstring injury he sustained in training.
Kings Lizotte Has Career Year Continue with Hot Streak
Los Angeles Kings center Blake Lizotte knew the odds were against him when he came to the NHL as an undrafted free agent. He had plenty of motivation to prove teams wrong as he skated onto NHL ice. Not only has he done just that, but he has also solidified himself as one of the most important pieces to the King’s puzzle.
Does Home Court Advantage Matter?
My first year as a high school girls soccer coach is ending on a sour note. Our CIF run came to an end after we lost our quarter final game–1 to 0. My team fought with heart and hustle till the end of the final whistle. We played that game as the away team and the home court advantage was definitely at play and it mattered.
Superstitions For The New Season
Baseball is a game of creatures of habit. Sometimes those habits transform into superstitions. Superstitions come in different forms. A batter fidgeting with his gloves before nearing the batter’s box. A pitcher adjusting his cap before unloading. A fan spraying their jersey with water from Dodgers stadium anytime they play home games and calling it holy water.
You Said What?
Welcome to my new segment, You Said What? Short rants based on real quotes. Spring training is up and running. Let’s rant about some arbitrary quotes. “I still expect to win the World Series. I do. And I don’t think that there’s anybody that’s a part of our organization or fan base that doesn’t feel that same way.”
Denis Bouanga: The X-Factor
The Black and Gold continue with their preseason as they faced off against a familiar face. A Toronto FC team led by the clubs first ever coach, Bob Bradley. LAFC entered their final game of the Coachella Valley Invitational in hopes of leaving with a .500 record. As they had lost to DC United in their previous game. It would be a bang-bang start to the game as just six minutes had passed by, and we were tied 1-1. Once again, the opening goal came from LAFC’s winger Denis Bouanga. Who has been on an absolute tear this preseason. Ultimately the two teams went into the break tied at 1. In the second half it would once again be Denis Bouanga who would restore the lead for the Black and Gold. Bringing his total of goals scored to three this preseason. It would also be a win against their former coach. LAFC will now shift focus as they will face off against the San Diego Loyal in their final preseason matchup.
Is Los Angeles Kings Goaltender Copley a Vezina Candidate?
Los Angeles Kings goaltender Pheonix Copley has been discussed a lot, and rightfully so. He came into a difficult situation when the team as a whole was not playing well and things turned around almost instantly. With the season he has had, that makes one wonder, does he have enough to be a Vezina Trophy candidate?
LAFC Signs Midfielder Timothy Tillman
Los Angeles Football Club announced the signing of midfielder Timothy Tillman on February 10. Tillman is LAFC’s eighth new player and has signed a contract through 2025 with an option for 2026. The German will be added to the first team’s roster pending receipt of an International Transfer Certificate...
