RUIDOSO, N.M. — There will be a chance for a Triple Crown winner this year in quarter horse racing for 2-year-olds. Hezgothelook Z proved much the best Sunday afternoon in winning the second leg of the Triple Crown, the $1 million Rainbow Futurity. Weaver returns to CHS cheer — this time as coach
The Cleveland High School cheer team has a new head coach, and it's one of their former cheerleaders, Maddison Weaver. “It means so much to me to be back at Cleveland. Being an alumni and past cheerleader, I couldn’t be more excited to give back to the school and program that shaped me,” Weaver said. “Another big push schoolwide this year is to bring back that ‘electric’ school spirit that Cleveland is known for.”
Expected water outage in Portales
If you are a resident of Portales living in the area of North Ave B, West Ivy, and the surrounding areas, do not be alarmed at an expected water outage tomorrow. On July 16th, from 8 AM to around 3 PM, the city will be updating the infrastructure around the area. Expect no water supply, and low water pressure after the job is completed, with some minor discoloration. If you have any questions, contact the City Hall water dept. at 575-356-6662.
IBPSA Launches Master Business Academy Program
(PRESS RELEASE) LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The International Boarding & Pet Services Association (IBPSA) announced the launch of the IBPSA Master Business Academy (IBPSA MBA), a cutting-edge, fully virtual training program designed specifically for professionals in the pet care services industry. The program, which will begin on October 10, 2024, was developed in partnership with GoalMakers and modeled on an executive MBA curriculum. Through a unique combination of networking and learning opportunities, the program is tailored to help pet care business leaders become better managers and improve their bottom lines.
Corona Field Day to highlight tech, research
Taylor Andrews counts herself among the lucky ones who gets to conduct unique research at New Mexico State University’s Corona Range and Livestock Research Center. Andrews is a doctoral student majoring in animal science at NMSU, and has worked as a graduate assistant in Corona for three years. She has completed three dissertation projects at the center, located eight miles east of Corona, where she has found a second home of sorts.

Grants Awarded to Climate Change Projects, Flagstaff Included
The 4 Corners Carbon Coalition, a group of cities and counties in the Western U.S., has awarded $335,000 to four projects designed to combat climate change and reduce wildfire risks by sucking carbon from the air. These projects will use the latest carbon dioxide removal (CDR) approaches to transform organic waste into practical, value-added resources like biochar.

UFC champ Jon Jones charged with two misdemeanors stemming from encounter with drug-testing agent
UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones is facing two misdemeanor charges stemming from an encounter with a “terrified” drug-test sample collector earlier this year. Jones has been charged with assault and interference with communications, according to Bernadillo County (N.M.) online records, and is scheduled for a virtual bond hearing this Wednesday, July 17, at 9:15 a.m. local time (11:15 a.m. ET).
