A funeral service for Peter Courtney, Oregon’s longest serving lawmaker and Senate president, is scheduled for July 30 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Angel. Courtney worked as a Salem lawmaker for nearly four decades, ascending to become the powerful Senate president in 2003. He died on Tuesday, less than two years after retiring from the Senate, from complications related to cancer. He was 81.

ASOTIN COUNTY - The Cougar Creek Fire is burning about 23 miles southwest of Asotin in timber grass and brush, near Highway 129.
