Recently elected Loudon city council member, former police chief James ‘Bear’ Webb passes away unexpectedly

LOUDON, Tenn. ( WATE ) — The Loudon city government and the Loudon County law enforcement community are mourning the loss of one of their own. James “Bear” Webb reportedly passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 30. He was 62 years old.

The Loudon Police Department shared the following words regarding Webb:

James “Bear” Webb was the retired Police Chief for the City of Loudon Police Department and a recently elected City Councilman. Unfortunately, he passed away unexpectedly today. James dedicated his career to “Protect and Serve” the citizens of Loudon. His law enforcement career spaned over a period of 40 years and his contributions to our community are significant. He will be sadly missed by many. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers.

The City of Loudon shared warm thoughts on social media regarding Webb, calling him “a dedicated servant.”

“Yesterday was a sad day, we lost one of our own! Council Member James Webb. He was a good friend and a dedicated servant to the City of Loudon for most of his life. He will be dearly missed,” reads the Facebook post by the City of Loudon Government.

The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday also shared warm thoughts about Webb, stating that he would be “deeply missed.”

The LCSO mourns the loss of James “Bear” Webb, retired Chief of Police from the Loudon Police Department . Chief Webb passed away on July 30th, 2024.

Chief Webb dedicated his life to serving and protecting the City of Loudon community for 40 years with unwavering commitment and integrity. His leadership, kindness, and dedication left a mark on all who had the privilege of knowing and working with him.

Chief Webb’s legacy of service, strength, and compassion will never be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, the Loudon Police Department and all those who were touched by his remarkable life.

According to a post shared by the City of Loudon, Loudon Funeral Home and Cremations is handling Webb’s funeral ceremony. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 2 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Blairland Baptist Church. The funeral service will be at 5 p.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Jon Henson. Interment to follow at New Steekee Cemetery.
