LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — As successful as Siena women’s basketball was last year – reaching the semifinals of the MAAC Tournament for a second straight season – it was tough not to wonder what could’ve been had the Saints not been bitten so badly by the injury bug.

Starting guard Valencia Fontenelle-Posson and forward Anajah Brown are recovering from season-ending injuries.

Fontenelle-Posson played just six games last year before suffering a torn ACL. Brown battled through a shoulder injury for much of the second half of the regular season, and was officially shut down prior to the start of the tournament.

Both players have been progressing well, though, in their rehab.

“The knee’s feeling great. If it was up to me, I’d be playing on the court,” said Fontenelle-Posson. “But, you know, doctor’s orders. I have a few months to go for recovery. Back to doing the normal lifts with the team, and running with the team. Kind of going half in practice with shooting and dribbling; can’t really go up and down with contact just yet. So, I’m just waiting for that clearance from doc.”

“For me to only be four months post-op…I’m going at it,” said Brown. “But I’m not pushing myself too hard; just going on how I’m feeling and what I can tolerate. It’s been going really well.

And the two have really leaned on each other to get through a difficult time in their careers.

“Valencia’s my best friend, and we talk every day,” said Brown. “Sitting on the bench at the MAAC Tournament…it was devastating. But I did it with my best friend. That’s a good way to look at it. We just talk about the mental part of it…getting each other through the mental part, like, “You can push yourself.” And, you know, just talking to each other about the process because we’re experiencing the same thing.”

Head coach Terry Primm is encouraged by what he’s seen from his two stars.

“Their intensity and attention to detail has been tremendous,” said Primm. “They’re covering a lot of ground in a short period of time. So, I fully expect them to be ready to go when the time comes. At the same time, I want them to be a little conservative about what they’re doing to prevent relapse. But they’ve been tremendous.”
