LSU has received a grant from Louisiana Economic Development’s Entertainment Development Fund to expand its Film & Television program.

The $200,000 grant from the state will finance a new full-time faculty member to expand the program to cover digital and virtual filmmaking. Adding faculty will increase the program’s enrollment capacity,  Kristin Sosnowsky, executive associate dean of the LSU College of Music & Dramatic Arts said in a news release.

The grant, which will be dispersed over three years, is the second award from the state’s Entertainment Development Fund the university has received. In 2021, the Louisiana Economic Development agency awarded LSU $1.25 million to create a virtual production program.

Louisiana has around 10,000 jobs in the film industry, according to a news release, and sees film revenues of around $1 billion annually.
