Woman pleads guilty to killing unborn baby, Arkansas pregnant mother in plot to claim child as her own
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Amber Waterman pleaded guilty in federal court to kidnapping and killing Ashley Bush, a 31-week pregnant Arkansas woman, and her unborn baby back in 2022. Waterman changed her plea from not guilty during a hearing in Springfield on July 30, 2024. She was set to go on trial alongside her husband Jamie Waterman, who at this time is still expected to stand trial in October for allegedly assisting Amber in the crimes.

Local Sonic franchisee found dead
A local Sonic Drive-In franchisee was found dead last week in the Lake of the Ozarks area after he was reported missing. The body of Brent L. Johnson, 58, was found July 24 by a volunteer search team near Old Kinderhook golf course in Camdenton, according to a news release from the Camden County Sheriff's Office. Johnson had been reported missing on July 22 after leaving his hotel, and his body was reportedly found in a wooded area near the golf course.

Relatives sue for prison video after guards charged in Black Missouri man's death
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — The family of a Black Missouri man who prosecutors say was killed by guards in a Missouri prison sued Tuesday for surveillance video of the moments leading up to his death. Four prison guards were charged last month with murder, and a fifth with accessory to involuntary manslaughter, in 38-year-old Othel Moore Jr.'s December 2023 death. All five former guards have pleaded not guilty. Moore’s mother and sister said they submitted a request in January through Missouri’s public records laws for prison surveillance video from the day of his death. In a lawsuit their attorney said was filed Tuesday, the family said it still has not received the footage.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — Tommy Pham hit a pinch-hit grand slam in his first game back with the Cardinals and St. Louis beat the Texas Rangers 8-1 on Tuesday night. Pham’s blast off reliver Cody Bradford capped a five-run fifth. It was his first at-bat since being dealt to the Cardinals from the White Sox as part of a three-team trade on Monday. Pham began his career with the Cardinals, who drafted him in the sixth round in 2006.
