Entergy and NextEra Energy Resources (LLC) recently signed a joint development agreement to push forward up to 4.5 GW of new solar generation and energy storage projects over the course of five years.

“We’re excited about this joint development agreement, which will enable Entergy to provide our customers with low-cost, renewable energy as demand grows across Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Texas,” Rod West, group president of utility operations for Entergy, said.

Entergy, which supplies power to 3 million customers throughout its four-state territory, hailed the agreement for how it will help grow its renewable portfolio. The pair of companies already had more than 1.7 GW of renewable energy projects underway together, and this agreement extends that to new heights.

Rebecca Kujawa, president and CEO of NextEra, signaled that low-cost, renewable generation and storage like this is the right way to meet a turning point in the industry, and the surging electricity demand attached to it.
