Adopting shelter dogs who need a safe forever home is such an incredible thing to do, but there's so much that happens behind the scenes before they are able to find their humans. The people who work at animal rescues and shelters are heroes to so many of our four-legged friends in need out there — but as it turns out, some of the dogs they care for come to be heroes all on their own during their stay in the shelter, too.
One of those heroes was introduced on TikTok recently, and he deserves to be celebrated. He was able to save the life of another shelter puppy, and now, the entire world can know about his heroic act.
Recently, the Louisiana SPCA shared a sweet video introducing us to a Pit Bull named Scout who was able to help a puppy named Dragon Fruit who got an incredibly difficult start to life.
As they explained in the caption, Dragon Fruit was found abandoned in a bush at an apartment complex, and suffering from anemia — not to mention the fact that he was also covered in fleas. Seeing those first few videos of that tiny boy struggling is so heartbreaking.
Enter Scout, who was able to donate multiple bags of blood to Dragon Fruit so he could have the transfusion he desperately needed and continue getting stronger and healthier every day.
He even got a sign on his kennel door that shares that he donated blood, so he can be properly thanked for his contribution. So cool!
Scout Is Available for Adoption
Not only is Scout adorable and a hero, but he's also available for adoption — and after he bravely gave blood for tiny Dragon Fruit, he deserves to find the best home ever.
According to his listing on the Louisiana SPCA's website, Scout is just two years old and weighs 55 pounds, and was rescued by the shelter back in early May.
"I've got a knack for making everyone feel like they're my best friend," says his description. "I've been told I'm sweet, and I agree. I love to give kisses and snuggle up close. I'm always ready for a good game of fetch or a leisurely stroll around the block. I'm eager to learn new tricks and I'm a quick study. I'm not just a pet, I'm a companion, a confidant, and a source of endless joy."
Dragon Fruit isn't listed on the site just yet, but he likely has to get a bit healthier first — after all, he's been through a lot.
Fingers crossed that Scout and Dragon Fruit both end up in their forever homes soon. Who ever ends up with either of these pups will be some very lucky humans!
