New brewery opens in Smoketown
A new brewery is set to open Friday, June 21, on a long vacant property in Louisville's Smoketown neighborhood.<\p> Trellis Brewing posted on its Facebook page this week that it plans to hold its grand opening this weekend following more than a year of construction. <\p>
Metro passes $1B budget
The Louisville Metro Council passed Mayor Craig Greenberg’s proposed $1.1 billion fiscal 2024-25 operating budget with a few alterations Thursday night.<\p> When Greenberg presented his second budget proposal to the council in April, he called for some belt tightening, including a request that the leaders of every city department make a minimum 1 percent spending cut. He also suggested eliminating sponsorships and some unfilled positions, and creating a formal application process for nonprofits seeking city funding.<\p>

Jack in the Box Inc. (Nasdaq: Jack) is headed to Okolona.<\p> The San Diego-based fast food chain is planning to open a restaurant at 7801 Preston Highway near the intersection with Outer Loop, according to a Louisville Metro Planning and Design filing.<\p>
House demolished, community center planned
Domestic worker Evelyn Sparrow purchased a home at 1518 Prentice St., near St. Stephen Baptist Church, for $1,500 in 1940. <\p> Now, a nonprofit is planning to use the property to encourage development in the California neighborhood around it.<\p>
