Accounting giant adopts new name
Forvis, a large U.S. accounting firm with a presence in Louisville, has adopted a new name.<\p> As of today, call it: Forvis Mazars. The new moniker is introduced as Mazars, an international partnership operating in over 100 countries and territories, and Forvis, mark the official launch of their new global network.<\p>
NYC firm to invest $4M in Louisville office following deal
One of Louisville’s largest asset management firms is investing millions of dollars to enhance its employee training capabilities.<\p> Cerity Partners will begin renovating a 10,000-square-foot space on the first floor of its East End office at 2201 High Wickham Place early this summer, the company confirmed to Business First in an email. Construction is expected to cost $3.98 million, according to a permit filed with Louisville Metro Planning and Design.<\p>
Local law firm makes C-suite hire
Kentucky law firm McBrayer’s expansion continues with the additions of a chief human resources officer and two associate attorneys in the Lexington and Louisville offices, further expanding the firm’s litigation and intellectual property groups and adding a trusted HR professional to firm administration, according to a news release.<\p> Here's a bit more about the new hires:<\p>

Despite the seemingly endless number of challenges that come along with being a small-business owner, the vast majority of entrepreneurs recommend it. <\p> A survey of employed adults and small-business owners by Justworks and The Harris Poll earlier this year revealed that 93% of small-business owners would recommend business ownership to others, with 59% saying it was easier than they had anticipated. <\p>
The most expensive homes sold in Jefferson County (May 9-13)
Soaring home prices in Louisville are just below the median buying power of local residents. <\p> That's according to data from First American Financial Corp., which found the housing markets in at least half of the nation's major metro areas are overvalued compared to local buying power. <\p>
Space-tech firm breaks ground on new facility
A cutting edge development in Southern Indiana will have researchers directly communicating and working with astronauts aboard the International Space Station. <\p> On Friday, Jacksonville, Florida-based Redwire Corporation officially broke ground on its 30,000 square foot research and development facility at the Novaparke Innovation & Technology Campus in Georgetown. Redwire's facility, expected to bring about two dozen jobs, will work to meet growing demand for in-space manufacturing and microgravity research. <\p>
UFC Fight Night among biggest events in June in Louisville
A record-breaking month of May deserves a nice month of June to follow it, right?<\p> While June's biggest events and conventions aren't quite as big as May's (the 150th Kentucky Derby and the PGA Championship topped that list), there is plenty on the calendar. All totaled, 34 events and conventions are expected to bring 68,000 visitors to town and generate $31 million in economic impact, according to data shared by Louisville Tourism. <\p>
Regional bank adds to C-suite
A regional bank with more than 20 branches across the state has filled its CFO position from within. <\p> Mt. Sterling-based Traditional Bank says it's promoted Chas Sargent to chief financial officer, replacing Mike Hendrix, who held that position for the past 28 years. <\p>
Major outdoor retailer to open first area store
A new-to-market specialty outdoor retailer is coming to Louisville.<\p> Seattle-based REI Co-op will open its first Kentucky store this fall at 4350 Summit Plaza Drive inside the Paddock Shops, according to a news release.<\p>
More workers are staying with their current employer in 2024
Most U.S. employees are now choosing to stay with their jobs instead of looking for new ones, a sharp turnaround from the job reshuffling that was common during the Covid-19 pandemic. <\p> A new survey by global advisory firm WTW found 72% of employees are choosing to stay with their employer — up substantially from the 53% who said the same thing in 2022. Back then, about 25% of workers were open to job offers, compared to just 11% now.<\p>
Prospective homebuyers are missing out as sellers cut their prices
The chronically troublesome housing market is seeing more price drops, but that doesn’t necessarily translate into relief for homebuyers.<\p> Data from real estate firm Redfin Corp. shows 6.4% of active listings on the platform had a price drop through the week ending May 26. While that's not a massive portion of listings, the percentage is substantially higher than the 4.4% of listings with price drops recorded during the same time in 2023.<\p>

Nonprofit opens new store in the Portland neighborhood
A new boutique and thrift store opened in the Portland neighborhood this week.<\p> Merriment opened at 2533 Portland Ave., near Shaheen’s Department Store and the new Outsider Art Museum & Gallery, on May 30. The more than 2,600-square-foot space was previously used by a florist and a tavern.<\p>
Louisville Zoo getting 2 koalas
Two new Australians are making their way to Louisville — Dharuk and Telowie.<\p> The two male koalas will be coming from the San Diego Zoo, according to a Louisville Zoo news release. Dharuk and Telowie join the Louisville Zoo family indefinitely as part of an agreement with the Australian government. They will arrive in June, according to a news release from the zoo.<\p>
Louisville Public Media lays off 8, citing shortfall
Louisville Public Media reports it's laid off eight employees as the nonprofit news organization works through a $775,000 budget deficit. <\p> LPM's board of directors came to the decision Tuesday as part of a plan to slash expenses 10% for the upcoming fiscal year. The cuts include six full-time employees, two part-time staffers and the elimination of two unfilled positions across the group's three stations and the Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting. <\p>
Wendy Dant Chesser picked for state role
A longtime local economic development executive has added to her busy schedule.<\p> On Thursday, Wendy Dant Chesser was chosen by Indiana Democrats to fill the seat vacated when District 71 Rep. Rita Fleming, who abruptly retired just a week after winning the early May primary running unopposed, according to a press release shared by Dant Chesser.<\p>

Music festival moving to Waterfront Park
The Big Stomp Festival is moving to Waterfront Park July 26-27.<\p> Organizers of the festival, formerly known as Pete Fest, announced today they're changing the venue to the Brown-Forman Amphitheater from Jones Field in southeastern Jefferson County in an effort to make the festival more accessible. <\p>
Major hotel chain planning new Louisville location
One of the world’s top hotel chains could soon have a new location near Muhammad Ali International Airport.<\p> Raj Krupa LLC is planning to build a 101-room Hyatt hotel at 6550 Paramount Park Drive, according to a filing with Louisville Metro Planning and Design.<\p>
East End restaurant opening second location
A restaurant that has one location in the Springhurst Shopping Center is planning to open a second on the East End. <\p> Clean Eatz will open at 9545 Taylorsville Road in Jeffersontown, near Kingpin Lanes, during the second half of June, according to a news release. The health food restaurant franchise specializes in preparing chef-inspired, nutritionist-approved meals, the release said. Customers have the option to dine-in, order weekly meal plans, catering or grab and go meals. <\p>
