So many things throughout the community impact the lives of children and their families, and I want to know more about them.

As the education reporter for The Courier Journal, I strive to tell stories that inform and offer context to the challenges our kids and those around them are facing. I also love to tell stories about their achievements and to highlight when progress is being made. With so much going on, though, I know there are things I'm missing.

That's where you come in! On Wednesdays each month through October, I will work from one of the many libraries and community centers across Louisville in hopes you'll stop and share your thoughts with me. I want to hear about your concerns, your questions, your personal stories. While my main job is to cover education, I'm interested in all things kid-related.

Other Courier Journal reporters who cover a wide variety of topics will be with me to hear your thoughts, too. This is part of our mobile newsroom initiative, which has taken us into nearly a dozen communities throughout the city over the past three years. Our goal is to improve our staff's connection with community members so we can provide better coverage across Louisville.

Our first 2024 stop was in Valley Station, and now we're headed to the California Community Center from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, July 8 through 19.

We'll have a few items to give away at the stops — including tickets to Cirque de Soleil at the KFC Yum Center and Raising Cane's gift cards.

In addition to my regular Wednesday appearance, the following reporters and editors will have regular library shifts:

After the California neighborhood, we will be at:

    • The Northeast Regional Library in the Lyndon neighborhood from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays, Aug. 5-16
    • Logan Street Market in the Shelby Park neighborhood from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, Sept. 3-13

We will also be in Oldham County Oct. 7-18, but we're still ironing out the details.

If you can't make it by to visit, you can always reach me at kjohnson3@gannett.com.
