A motorcyclist hospitalized after a Bardstown Road crash on Saturday afternoon has died from his injuries, Louisville Metro Police said in a statement Thursday morning.

LMPD spokesman Dwight Mitchell said witnesses told the department they observed a motorcycle traveling “at a high rate of speed” run a red light at the intersection of Bardstown Road and Tyler Lane. After, Mitchell said, the driver “was thrown from the motorcycle and struck a vehicle that was operating eastbound on Tyler Lane.”

The man was brought to University Hospital in critical condition. He was declared dead on Wednesday, Mitchell said.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the motorcyclist as Michael Mooreland, 42, on Thursday morning. The office listed his cause of death as “blunt force trauma sustained in a motorcycle versus automobile collision.”
