Louisville woke up to a wet, overcast Fourth of July on Thursday morning. But will the weather dampen the holiday and fireworks today?

After heavy rain on Wednesday, the Louisville area remains under a flood watch until 8 p.m. Thursday, with the National Weather Service saying “flash flooding is likely in any areas that see repeated rounds of storms today.”

Speaking to The Courier Journal, National Weather Service meteorologist Samantha Michlowitz said storms will start to develop in the Louisville area from 4 p.m. on, though they are expected to be "isolated and scattered."

Michlowitz added: “Some storms could get pretty strong with some gusty winds, lightning and very heavy rainfall.”

Fireworks over the Ohio River are scheduled at Louisville’s Waterfront Park at 10 p.m.

“I would not rule out a storm moving through, but right now it looks like it would be isolated to scattered chances. So we’re talking like a 30% chance,” Michlowitz said of the probability of inclement weather during the planned fireworks.
