Daily Briefing: These people live in Spencer County — or do they?

By Keisha Rowe, Louisville Courier Journal,

Good morning and happy Tuesday. (You can read today's eNewspaper here.)

We have a fair chance to see showers and thunderstorms throughout the day and into the evening hours, according to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service in Louisville. We should see a high around 89.

Here are this morning's top stories so far:

A confusing line: For more than 200 people living in Spencer County, things have been just fine. They've been able to work, play and learn in a small community away from the hubbub of the big city — until they all received a letter saying they weren't Spencer County residents at all.

After getting that notice in April, those residents now find themselves residents of Shelby County, all thanks to a county line that had been misinterpreted for decades. That single oversight has lead to a steadily growing mound of problems and headaches not just for them, but for county officials who now have to determine how to serve this small suburb in Shelby County that can't even be accessed by traveling its roads.

Read more about the issue and what the frustrated residents are now doing to get things fixed through our story from investigative reporter Stephanie Kuzydym.

Thank you for reading the Daily Briefing this morning. If you have an idea for a story we can cover in your neighborhood, please send me a note at krowe@courier-journal.com.

I hope you have a great day today! See you tomorrow.

    Best,

    Keisha
