Is it the summer of hot dogs? Maybe.
Three new restaurants that predominately serve hot dogs recently opened in Louisville, with a fourth spot on the way later this year.
From extreme toppings, such as caramelized onions, chipotle aioli, and pickled jalapenos, to the classics, like yellow mustard, to vegetarian choices, there's no shortage of hot dog options at these new places.

A hot dog called “Nirvana” is made with cream cheese, fried onions, fresh jalapeños and jalapeño jelly. Another is made with blue cheese, bourbon-grilled onions, smoked bacon, and blackberry jam.

If you'd like the option to order a hot dog or oysters, there’s a new bar for you.
Inspired by nautical and tropical themes, this soon-to-open Butchertown spot hopes to offer an escape-type vibe. Called YachtSea, a play on the name of the dice-rolling game, the 1,300-square-foot bar at 111 N. Wenzel St. is on track to open by summer, the Courier Journal previously reported .
The concept comes from JC Denison, co-owner of The Merryweather in Germantown, and Leslee Macpherson, former director of operations at Holly Hill in Lexington.
Some hot dogs, made with beef and served on a potato bun, are topped with ingredients such as papaya, french onions, or homemade beer cheese, the owners previously told the Courier Journal.
For a sneak peek of what will be served at YachtSea, you can catch an occasional pop-up at The Merryweather.
