    Louisville companies, hospitals reporting issues due to CrowdStrike outage. What we know

    Companies all around the world, including right here in Louisville, are experiencing tech issues Friday due to problems with CrowdStrike , a cybersecurity firm.

    Incoming and outgoing flights from the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport have been affected, as well as companies such as UPS and Baptist Health, their spokespeople have told The Courier Journal.

    Here are what Louisville companies are reporting regarding the outages:

    Flight cancellations:

    Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport (SDF)

    Incoming and outgoing flights from the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport are being impacted by the issues, spokesperson Natalie Chaudoin said in a statement.

    American Airlines

    Delta

    Allegiant Air

    United Airlines

    Spirit Airlines

    Hospitals

    UofL Health

    Spokesperson David McArthur said the hospital system is working through issues caused by the outages, but their offices and hospitals are still operating.

    "UofL Health is working through issues caused by the national Crowdstrike IT defect. All patient care continues, including access to emergency care, trauma and surgeries.  Appointments with all UofL Physicians locations, medical centers and hospital-based clinics remain on schedule. We thank you for your understanding as we work to resolve the issue.

    "If you have additional questions, please contact the location handling your appointment."

    Baptist Health

    Spokesperson Natalie Grise said the outages have impacted Baptist Health and have caused issues in their normal operations.

    "Baptist Health is experiencing disruptions tied to the global CrowdStrike incident. Due to the nature of this incident, the health system is experiencing a disruption which is impacting our ability to sustain normal operations. Our number one priority is ensuring our patients continue to receive the highest-level of care as this incident is investigated and resolved. We have cancelled some procedures while we work to resolve the issue. Patients will be notified, if impacted. We understand this incident is an inconvenience and appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation during this time."

    Norton Healthcare

    Spokesperson Maggie Roetker said the hospital has experienced issues due to the outage, but no private data, including patient information, has been accessed.

    "Like many companies worldwide, Norton Clark Hospital began experiencing some computer access issues overnight due to a software update in CrowdStrike, a widely used cybersecurity product. The Norton Healthcare Information Services team has been actively working to restore all systems to normal operation since the issue began.

    " Please know there has been no unauthorized access to our systems or patient data.

    • The hospital is fully functional.
    • Ambulance traffic is on diversion. The ER is accepting walk-in patients.
    • Physician offices are open as scheduled.
    • A limited number of nonemergent morning procedures have been rescheduled and we have communicated with patients affected.
    • Phone systems are fully operational.

    " Some employees may experience device connectivity issues while the situation is being resolved. Select vendor applications used throughout Norton Healthcare also have experienced service disruption as these vendor products are supported by CrowdStrike.

    " We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve this issue. Stay tuned for additional updates. Thank you for your support."

    Companies

    UPS

    Spokesperson Mechelle Stanchfield said UPS has been impacted by the situation, but their flights will continue Friday.

    "A third-party software outage is impacting some UPS computer systems in the U.S. and Europe. At this time, our airline continues to operate effectively and our drivers are on the roads delivering for customers. We are continuing to work to resolve all issues as quickly as possible; there may be some service delays."

    What is CrowdStrike?

    According to the website , CrowdStrike is a U.S.-based cybersecurity firm that secures critical areas of risk in company databases, including endpoints and cloud workloads, identity and general company data.

    Is CrowdStrike down?

    Yes, CrowdStrike first started receiving reports of issues around 4:55 a.m. ET on Friday, according to DownDetector.com .

    What caused the CrowdStike global outage?

    A defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts, CrowdStrike President and CEO George Kurtz said. The issues only affect Windows operating systems and Mac and Linux users have not been impacted.
